I never understood using the word "bittersweet" to describe anything more than just a flavor you can taste. Like describing the taste of semi-sweet chocolate chips, or the after taste of a ruby red grapefruit... It had no meaning to me as a description of a feeling or emotion. It was an abstract term that I believed over-dramatic poets and authors liked to use to describe the inexplicable.
Now I know what bittersweet is as an emotion, a feeling, a sensation of such a profound mix. The confusing jumble of burgeoned hope countered by despair. Panic infused with excitement. Confidence blown apart from loss of self esteem. Loneliness filled with a sense of community. Sorrow mingled with joy... New goals and dreams evaporated by the unanticipated... The unexpected... The almost... inevitable reality checks that fall like meteors to the planetsides of our beings.
I'm starting to hate surprizes.
